How to setup a Countdown Timer in Snap Cart Drawer

Overview

A countdown timer helps create urgency in your cart by showing customers a limited time to complete their purchase. This can encourage faster decision-making and improve checkout conversions.

For example, a message like “Your items are reserved for 01:00” prompts customers to complete their order before the time expires.

Steps to Set Up a Countdown Timer

Step 1: Open Snap Cart Drawer

From your Shopify admin, go to Apps

Select Snap Cart Drawer

Step 2: Open Cart Customization

In the Snap Cart Drawer dashboard, locate the Appearance section
Click Customize

In the left menu, select Cart

Step 3: Add the Announcement Add-on

In the Cart body section, scroll down
Click + Add more add-ons
In the Cart add-ons modal, continue to the next step

Step 4: Enable the Announcement Bar

In the modal, find the Information section
Locate Announcement bar
Turn on the toggle

Click Done

Step 5: Enable Announcement in the Cart

Back in the main editor, locate Announcement under Cart body
Enable it by selecting the checkbox
Click Change templates

Step 6: Select the Countdown Timer Template

In the Templates window, choose Countdown timer
Click Done

Step 7: Configure the Countdown Timer

After selecting the template, the Announcement settings panel appears.

Edit the announcement text

In the Announcement text field, you can customize the message. For example:

“Your product are reserved for {{timer}}”
“Your order will expire in {{timer}}”
“Hurry up — only {{timer}} left to complete checkout”

Set the timer duration

In the Timer field, enter your preferred duration:

01:00 = 1 minute
02:00 = 2 minutes
05:00 = 5 minutes

Choose what happens when the timer ends

In Actions when timer ends, select an option such as:

Remove all items in cart (commonly used to reinforce urgency)

Step 8: Customize the Design

You can adjust the appearance of the announcement to improve visibility:

Text size
Text color
Background color
Timer color

Use contrasting colors to make the timer more noticeable.

Step 9: Preview and Save

Click Preview in the top-right corner
Check the cart drawer to confirm the timer is working as expected
Once you are satisfied, click Save to apply your changes

Result

Once enabled, the countdown timer appears at the top of the cart drawer whenever customers open it. This encourages faster checkout decisions and can help increase conversion rates.

Use short durations (1–2 minutes) to maintain urgency
Avoid setting long timers, as they reduce effectiveness
Use clear and action-focused messaging
Apply high-contrast colors to improve visibility
