How to customize and manage email templates
Hello store owners!
This guide will walk you through how to customize automated emails and ensure they’re sent to your customers at the right time. These emails help you stay connected with your buyers — whether it's restock updates, pre-order confirmations, or balance invoices.
🔧 Getting Started
- From the main menu, click the “Settings” tab.
- Select “Email Settings.”
- Choose either “Back in Stock Emails” or “Pre-order Emails” depending on which type of campaign you want to edit.
🔁 Back in Stock Emails
1. Back in Stock Notification
This email is automatically sent to customers when a previously sold-out product is restocked.
Status:
Default is Enabled. This means customers will be notified automatically.
If you want to turn it off or send emails manually, switch the status to Disabled.
Text & Translation:
You can customize the email content and add translations in the published languages of your store. The system will automatically send the email in the customer's preferred language.
Button Customization:
Customize the “Buy Now” button — change the color, font size, and border to match your brand.
Dynamic Tags:
Use dynamic tags like
{{product_title}}
or{{shop_name}}
— these will be automatically replaced with the correct information when the email is sent
2. Internal Notification
This email is sent to you (the merchant) when a customer requests to be notified about a product that’s out of stock.
🛒 Pre-order Emails
1. Pre-order Confirmation Email
Sent to customers automatically after placing an order that includes pre-order items.
Status:
The default is Disabled.
If you'd like to send it together with Shopify's order confirmation, you can just switch it to Enabled.
Text & Translation:
Customize the message and add multilingual content just like other emails.
Button Customization:
Personalize the “View Order” button, which links customers directly to their order page.
2. Partial Payment Invoice
This email is sent when a customer needs to pay the remaining balance for a pre-order.
- Shopify handles the delivery of this email automatically when the balance is due.
- You can edit the content by clicking the “Partial Payment Invoice” card in the settings.
3. Pre-order Delay Notification
Sent to customers when you update the estimated delivery date of a pre-order.
Status:
The default is Enabled, so the email is sent automatically.
You can switch it to Disabled if you prefer to send notifications manually.
Text & Translation:
Customize the message and include translations based on your store languages.
Button Customization:
Edit the “View Order” button appearance to align with your branding.
🔄 Using Dynamic Tags
In all email templates, you can use tags like {{product_title}}
, {{shop_name}}
, {{customer_name}}
to automatically insert the correct details before sending.
